Speech Therapy at SLC
We all need to have a voice, to express ourselves, and to be heard in our world.
Sometimes, all it takes to overcome the obstacles in our way is a little help and a lot of practice.

What Does Speech Therapy Look Like?
Some of our clients have trouble forming certain speech sounds, and may face teasing from their peers and a loss of confidence that can be overcome with some very simple, approachable, play-based speech therapy exercises.
Others have important things to say that they want to express somehow, and just need help extending their speaking beyond their current limitations or supplementing with some alternate ways to communicate, such as using pictures or a communication device.
Many of our clients seek speech therapy due to a chronic medical condition, or they may have gone through an acute traumatic brain injury, a stroke, or a surgery and need support in retraining the speech-related muscles or parts of their brain to operate together optimally again. Our speech therapists may also work with such clients on cognitive skills that support communication such as memory, processing, and comprehension.
Some of our clients come in wanting to work on fluency because they speak with a stutter, or want to rehabilitate or improve their vocal health and strength. There are social aspects to effective communication as well, and speech therapy also addresses the concerns of clients who want to improve their social communication.
No matter what brought them here, most of our clients and their families experience significant improvements in their quality of life and relationships as they put in the rewarding work of building and honing their skills.
We use evidence-based methods to evaluate and treat a wide variety of speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. Our Speech-Language Pathologists all hold Master’s Degrees, are licensed in the state, and are nationally certified by ASHA. Some clinicians additionally hold the following certifications:
Most importantly though, we want to meet our clients wherever they are, identify their unique strengths and interests to make therapy fun and motivating, and challenge them to reach their goals in a warm and accepting environment.

Benefits of Speech Therapy
Improved Communication Skills
Speech therapy helps children learn to express their thoughts, needs, and feelings more clearly. This can include working on pronunciation, vocabulary, sentence structure, and social communication skills.
Boosted Social Confidence
When children can communicate effectively, they feel more comfortable interacting with peers and adults. This reduces frustration, boosts self-esteem, and helps them build friendships more easily.
Better Listening and Understanding
Speech therapy also works on receptive language—the ability to understand and process what others are saying. This helps children follow directions, participate in conversations, and engage more successfully in classroom or home environments.
Academic Readiness
Clear speech and language skills are directly tied to reading, writing, and overall school performance. Therapy can strengthen literacy skills such as phonological awareness (recognizing sounds in words) and comprehension.
Developmental Support
For children with conditions such as autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, or developmental delays, speech therapy provides strategies tailored to their unique needs. This can include alternative communication methods, like picture systems or devices, alongside spoken language support.
